Every Sunday afternoon (as long as its not too wet) from 2-4pm a group of Kaiti residents meet up the back of Te Poho o Rawiri Marae to work on a Community Garden. This is a plot of land that has been set aside for local residents to grow vegetables on. We have older people teaching younger people how to grow their own food. Since Winter we have been preparing the soil, starting our compost and planting strawberries, onions, garlic, broccolli, lettuce and spinach. For summer we have parareka (potatoes), corn, courgettes, carrots, tomatoes, beans and other crops. Anyone is welcome to join in and share the harvest - bring garden tools or use the ones we have available to share. Contacts: Chuck Ngaira 027 699 7806
